About the class

 



Building on the musical fundamentals learned in Level One, Level Two dives deeper into technique and structure to help you turn your scenes and songs into a musical!  You'll work on melody and style as well as structure and song-type.  Exercises will focus on emotional commitment and heightening the stakes of a scene to help you find your best voice to start a solid and interesting song.  With continued work on movement and teamwork, this class will help you develop the skills you need to get a standing ovation at the end of each number.  You don't have to be a great singer to be a great musical improviser, come one, come all!  Pre-req: Musical Level 1 (or equivalent) Want your musical improv to look like an actual musical number? Your friends won't believe you made it up on the spot! Using solid scenework and song structure as a foundation, you'll learn to improvise the components of real musicals. You'll learn various song types that are used on Broadway, as well as different composers' styles and multiple genres of music. With continuing work on movement, teamwork, and getting from scene to song. You don't have to be a great singer, but you will be a stronger improviser in the end! 

Katie Hammond

Katie Hammond, a Michigan native, earned her BA in Theatre from The College of Wooster in Ohio before starting her career in improv.  In Chicago, she studied and performed at The Second City, iO and The Playground Theater.  She relocated to Florida to improvise full-time at Walt Disney World and at SAK Comedy Lab in downtown Orlando.  After moving to NYC she studied and performed at The Magnet Theatre and at The People's Improv Theatre. At the PIT she can be seen performing weekly with her musical house team VERN, as well as on her two-man made-up musical What Town? The Musical. She also tours the country with Broadway's Next Hit Musical and performs regularly with The Story Pirates and This Is Your Life: The Musical.  www.katiehammond.com
