Tamara became a staff writer for “Important Things with Demetri Martin” simply by having a great packet. How does she know? Because they told her so. Women submit far less frequently than men to late night and comedy TV shows. While the reasons why are debatable, one thing that CAN change is the numbers. More women need the tools to practice writing packets for these shows. We’ll cover The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Show with David Letterman. It’s a great low-pressure environment to workshop your writing and get feedback from peers. One thing to note is this is not an NBC tour – we spent most of our time practicing how to make a great packet. Past classes have also featured one guest speaker, typically a writer or producer of the shows we study. This isn’t guaranteed, but we’re appreciative when people stop by to share what they know.
