The "Anatomy of a 1-Liner" is an interactive seminar that teaches students the various categories and structures of jokes used in monologues and roasts. Using this organized approach, students will participate in exercises that enable them to improve their current jokes and to write new ones from the latest daily newspaper.
This class incorporates movement-based exercises, scenework and group exercises to explore the primary fundamentals of improvisation, making you more confident, trusting and graceful on stage. The class emphasizes creating a rich environment for your scenes, committing to your decisions and your scene partner and beginning with the body as inspiration. There will be a final graduation performance at the PIT for friends, family and others. This class will be a two week intensive meeting every day Monday through Thursday for two weeks.

This class will teach you. Through easy-to-understand instruction, writing exercises, and constructive feedback you’ll learn how to craft topical monologue jokes, desk pieces, sketches, reality-based comedy segments, and more. This class will give you all the tools you need to put together a strong submission packet for the comedy/talk show of your choice. You’ll also pick up skills you can use to write short-form comedy for the Internet, reality shows, print media, and other formats.
