Two murderers -- one black, one white -- are chained at the ankles. That’s all that’s certain at the start of Shackled, a 45-minute, darkly comedic theater piece. Everything else is improvised. Sometimes the fugitives agree. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they live. Sometimes they die. Up against the elements, each other and their own animalistic desires to escape that lay behind them, actors Dion Flynn and Nate Starkey have been hurtling into the unknown reaches of improvised theater together, to the delight of NYC audiences (Upright Citizen's Brigade, People's Improv Theater, 2012 New York Improvised Theater Festival), for more than four years. Shackled explores all that we run from, as humans, all that we run toward and what keeps us together. Do we ever get there? Come and see.
