Acting For Sketch And Scripted Comedy | Patrick McCartney | January 24
About the class
This class is for anyone who wants to improve their acting chops when it comes to sketch comedy, comedic audition situations, sitcom and film scripts, and other scripted comedy gigs. We will address the fact that great comedy performance doesn’t rely on strong writing alone – how it’s performed can make or break it. You don’t have to be a member of a sketch group to take this class – whether you’re interested in sketch comedy yourself, are a member of a team, or you just want to improve your ability to bring scripted comedy to the next level, this class will provide you with a strong base of skills for performing sketch and scripted comedy. Learn how to become a versatile comedic actor by making specific, committed choices based on the joke of the sketch, practice being comfortable and in the moment on stage, identify and play with status, explore and utilize good stage craft, learn some techniques to help make memorizing lines easier, and explore bringing more of yourself and what you find funny to your performance. Most importantly, this class will encourage you to let go and have fun with the roles you play. During the first class, we will discuss the individual goals of each student so that we can tailor the course to everyone’s specific needs. Good sketch comedy is well-written. Great sketch comedy is well-written and expertly performed.
