About the class

The Basics of Sketch Comedy Writing class will introduce students to the core tenets of sketch comedy writing.  The class will focus on basic sketch forms and concepts, including juxtapostion, heightening, linguistics, absurdism, parody, developing personal voice and revision. The class will end with a class show in one of The PIT’s theaters and will leave students with all the skills they will need to begin their sketch comedy careers with a strong foundation.

Leila Ben-Abdallah

Leila is a comedian, actor, improviser, writer and producer from the Washington D.C. area. After graduating from the William Esper Studio Two-Year professional training program in 2009, Leila has performed extensively on stage and screen with the NY Arab-American Comedy Festival (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012), College Humor, TruTV, Numu Arts Collective, PEN World Voices Festival, The Claque, Fresh Ground Pepper, and Munkytown Productions. Leila has created and performed two solo shows, Leticia’s Fifth Birthday Party, and How Did I Get in Here? The Beverly Blondell Story, the latter premiered at the SOLOCOM Festival of comedic solo works, and went on to enjoy a critically acclaimed run at the 2014 NY International Fringe Festival. Every Monday at 8 at The People’s Improv Theater, Leila improvises with the house team, The Duke.  Leila was profiled in the November 2014 Issue of VIVMag in Jordan, and her writing has been published on www.reductress.com. After spending years working in the restaurant industry, Leila created and produced Eighty-Sixed, a comedic pilot about the creative types who make the NYC restaurant industry run.
