About the show
It’s the Holiday season! Everyone’s traveling, going to parties, or working extra shifts to pay for all of the holiday FUN! And what better way to celebrate than listening to a woman (Eleanor Philips) make jokes and tell stories about suicide, depression, and hospitalization?? AT 5PM?? Early enough that you can put yourself in a weird mood before a holiday party! Late enough that you won’t have to kill time afterwards!
TEN DAYS NEXT TO A CHEESECAKE FACTORY is part standup part TedTalk part improvisation, all 100% true story. And now in Holiday Themes!
Saturday December 21 at 5pm: THE WINTER SOLSTICE.
Come kick off the longest night of the year with Ellie. Extra-dose of ritual.
Sunday December 22 at 5pm: SORRY, IT’S CHANUKA.
Apologies to all of the Chosen People! Even though Chanukah’s importance has been greatly overblown due to capitalism and the ubiquitousness of Christmas, I’m still sorry to be doing a show on the first night. Come through, gentiles and anyone Jewish who’s more like, eh, I lit the menorah and that’s enough for me!
[cw: suicide, suicidal ideation, psychiatric hospitalization]
More About the Show:
On Memorial Day, 2013, Eleanor decided to kill herself. Instead, she wound up checking herself into the Psychiatric ER at New York Presbytarian Hospital, and became a psychiatric inpatient at the NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center (aka Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic) in White Plains, where she remained for another week before her release. In this brutally honest, darkly comedic solo show, Eleanor attempts to tell the story of her time as an inpatient, demystify and explain the current mental health system, & share how she rediscovered herself under her depression during and in spite of her institutionalization.
