In this class you will learn all the basics of writing and performing stand-up comedy. We will study comedy theory and gain a deeper understanding of what causes laughter. Students will be given a safe, engaging and supportive environment to build confidence in their creative ideas both on and off the stage. You will be encouraged to experiment outside your comfort zone, take risks and always lead with the principles of being honest, specific and having a strong point of view. Classes will serve as a laboratory for creating original stand-up material. You will learn how to translate your ideas into a crafted act through proper joke structure, writing & editing techniques all while developing a commitment to your own, unique sense of humor. You will come out of this course with a 3 minute comedy set which will be performed for friends & family at a Graduation Performance on 3/14.
