This course is for more experienced performers with existing knowledge of how to write and perform stand up comedy. In this course we will polish material and perfect persona, expand with different comedic writing styles including monologue jokes and submission packets for professional writing jobs, and learn additional skills like hosting and warm-up work. In this class we will also discuss the business of stand up comedy and how you can begin to approach a professional career. You will come out of this course with a 5 minute comedy set which will be performed for friends & family at a Graduation Performance on 3/1.


Prerequisite: You must have some stand up comedy experience.

Christi Chiello is a stand up comedian based in New York City. She made her television debut on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, opposite legend Jimmy Carr. Christi is featured on this season’s Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring and she recently filmed a new stand up series This Joka with Will Smith and Westbrook Studios.

Christi was named a “New Face of Comedy” at the International Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and has appeared on Rachel Dratch’s Late Night Snack and Comedy Knockout on TruTV, Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, Chris Gethard Presents on Manhattan Neighborhood Network and has played various roles on IFC’s Comedy Crib. Her one woman show It’s Christi, B*tch! Was featured in the New York Times and hailed a “must see comedy event” by Time Out New York. Christi currently tours the country as Nicole Byer’s opening act!

For over 6 years Christi has had the honor of teaching stand up comedy at various institutions including Muhlenberg College, Sarah Lawrence College, Hunter College, ArtsQuest and the People’s Improv Theatre. She has taught hundreds of students how to translate their ideas into a crafted act through proper joke structure, writing & editing techniques all while developing a commitment to their own unique sense of humor. Students of Christi’s have gone on to develop professional careers in comedy including writing for Saturday Night Live and Showtime’s Ziwe.
