Stephen Stout
Director or Original Content Production and Development
Stephen Stout is the Director of Original Content Development and Production at The Peoples Improv Theater, having previously served as The PIT’s Artistic Director. He, along with Colin Waitt, produced the original sold out, downtown run of Matt Cox’s Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic at The PIT, and serves as an associate producer on it’s subsequent runs at The Elektra Theater, and New World Stages. Puffs was performance captured and shown nationally via Fathom Events as Puffs: Filmed Live Off-Broadway! and is now available for download and streaming: Del Rey Books will publish Puffs: The Essential Companion In 2020. He co-created and produced the sold out, late night hit #serials@theflea at The Flea Theater from 2011 – 2014, featuring new work by a score of playwrights, directors and actors who have subsequently gone on to Broadway, Off-Broadway, HBO, Netflix, studio and independent features and across all rungs of show business. He also served as then Flea Artistic Director Jim Simpson’s assistant on the NEA grant award winning video game adaptation of Anne Carson’s Krapp Hour, starring Alan Rickman. Other NYC producing: the long running geek extravaganza Kapow-i GoGo (The PIT). He also ran the New York wing of The Old Vic Theatre’s Old Vic New Voices and produced programming at 3LD, Soho House, Space on Ryder Farm, The Vineyard, The Public and The Old Vic itself as well as The Orchard Project, the first simulcast transatlantic theatrical performance. Additionally, he has worked in development at both The Public Theater and StoryCorps. He is currently commissioned by Tilted Windmills Theatricals for The Magnificent Revengers, a western comedy epic where the audience determines the protagonist’s journey via their phone.
As an actor, he is an original company member of Puffs (The PIT, The Elektra, New World Stages); other NYC: Empire Travel Agency (Woodshed Collective); Kapow-i GoGo (The PIT); Chiara Atik’s Women (The PIT, Hollywood Fringe Festival Best of Fringe).
