The business world has embraced comedy as a tool for success. The art of Stand Up continues to help innovate, build & strengthen relationships, hone the ability to "read a room" and boost confidence. In this class designed for everyone, you will receive a "crash course" in stand up comedy. You will be introduced to the tools and techniques that translate directly to the real world. By learning how to bring honesty, specificity and a strong point of view to any situation you will learn how to "discover" the funny and  build comfort when speaking to a crowd in your own authentic voice. We are ALL faced with opportunities to be in the spotlight. Moments where you have to to stand up, by yourself, in front of a group and pitch them something you believe in. Often our audiences can be a "tough crowd."  But if you can confidently and authentically speak your truth and live to tell that tale–then you’ll realize that you can do anything.

Online Auditioning For An SNL Type Show, 10/12

Monday 10/12 7:00 pm

Instructor: Ali Reza Farahnakian

In July of 1999 I auditioned for SNL. I was at The Second City at the time. I had one week from when I found out to put together 3 characters and 3 impersonations in under 5 minutes to be recorded on the monologue stage at 8h inside 30 Rock. After a day of paralysis and panic,  I got to work, with my Second City Director Jeff Richmond. What I was able to do there has made all the difference in my life. Don't wait until you get the call, get ready now. Each student will work on a piece of their audition.

Bull/Matador (created by former Pitizen Matt Donnelly) is a signature improv scene technique that gets performers out of their heads by reacting to body language rather than over thinking about the dialogue. We’re also going to explore game of the improv scene and how to use it in scene-work. We’ll cover heightening, finding it, playing multiple games at once. Great workshop for those new to playing game and improvisers wanting to brush up their skills.
