He’s hot. He’s sexy. He’s bipolar.
In 2013, newly-out-of-the-closet college student Ben Hawes manically wrote a new one man musical over night in his dorm room and premiered Bipolar! The Musical to a crowd of 20 friends in a San Francisco State University common room two weeks later. It was raw, funny, and honestly? Weirdly good. Friends, fans, and family have been begging for its return ever since, and now… Ben’s bringing it back back!
Presented just as it was originally performed in 2013 — no rewrites, no edits, no adult supervision, this fun filled yet strikingly real musical is a snapshot of a young queer person navigating diagnosis, identity, and self-acceptance/celebration through chaotic songs, grand delusions, and over-the-top earnestness.
A Q&A will follow, led by one of Ben’s dearest friends, Nicole Pascaretta, offering a then-and-now reflection on bipolar disorder, self love, art, and coming of age.
Created and performed by Ben Hawes, an NYC-based musical comedian who has curated and produced some of the funniest shows about growing up gay, dating in NYC, and the modern awkwardness of adulthood. You may see Ben performing at locations such as The Stonewall Inn, Club Cumming, The Stand, but is now making his solo PIT debut for Bipolar! The musical.
