Love’s a Funny Thing

It’s 1980 and one of the most popular shows on television is Love’s a Funny Thing, the program where young couples come on to live television and reenact their most unbelievable stories (how they met, how they fell in love, etc.). For the past three years, the show has been hosted by cavalier old-school entertainer Rex Runyon, who happens to be in the midst of a nervous breakdown, one that his producer, Janice Leh, cannot help him avert. During the season finale, filmed in front of a live audience, a young couple, Nora and Wallace, are there to dramatize their engagement, which happens to include porn obsessed extraterrestrials and The Doobie Brothers. This riotous comedy incorporates the audience throughout, as they become the audience for the show, constantly pulled into the antics.
