The Peoples Improv Theater proudly announces the 10TH ANNUAL SOLOCOM!
SOLOCOMNYC has launched over 400 new solo comedies that have gone on to longer runs, tours and festivals around the world (including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.)
SOLOCOMNYC is a festival of new solo work. All shows presented are 75% – 100% new material, and are created specifically for the festival. SOLOCOM’s goal is to push artists to create a show that is meaningful, personal and to follow the fear.
Black Best Friend,” the first solo show from comedian/writer/singer Colette Gregory, dissects Black media tropes with satirical sketches, comedic songs, and painfully recognizable characters. From Black Trump supporters to Love is Blind contestants, Colette (who some have called the Oprah of comedy) hilariously deconstructs religion, sexuality, respectability politics, and everything in between. The result is an unforgettable evening of belly laughs, head nods, and songs you’ll be singing in the shower. “Black Best Friend” will leave you thinking about what it is to be a “Token Black Face“ in a predominantly white space. Content warning: trauma, violence, and racism.
Blaire Postman/ LADY ADHD
Step into the whirlwind universe of “LADY ADHD,” a captivating theatrical experience crafted by the brilliantly comedic mind of Blaire Postman. Seamlessly blending stand-up comedy with insightful TED Talk-style narratives, “LADY ADHD” offers audiences a unique and unforgettable journey through the lens of neurodiversity. Picture a fusion of rapid-fire humor, ingenious flip-chart presentations, and profound revelations about life’s intricacies and how they are connected.
This electrifying performance has garnered acclaim including being hand picked as a finalist in the Yes And Laughter Lab, and featuring in prestigious events like SF Sketchfest.
Blaire’s magnetic stage presence and razor-sharp humor, honed over a decade on stages across North America, shines through as she fearlessly tackles topics ranging from the strangeness of Americana to the often capricious constraints society imposes on us. From headlining indie clubs to gracing revered alt venues like Caveat Theater in New York, her high-energy mad-professor delivery captivates audiences at theaters, festivals and colleges alike.
Abby Laporte/ Manic Glamour: A Solo & Sane Comedy Show
This 25 minute comedic endeavor, written & performed by Abby Laporte, is a hot-yet-thoughtful take on bipolar recovery as a Millennial poet, digital writer, and standup comic.
In her multi-scene and hybrid genre one woman show, Abby takes the audience through a strangely uplifting, almost chronically optimistic experience. The goal of this show is to get between one to a zillion laughs per minute, and for at least one audience member to reach enlightenment. Or to care more about homelessness. Or, most of all… To enjoy their evening at the show!
As a California Native whose dad was born in New York City, Abby Laporte is acutely prepared, with improv and plenty of stand up experience, to carry the stage! And, don’t worry… She takes her meds.
