“Stranger in a stangeland – an autobiographical comedy, living around the world” – ATSUSHI OGATA
Having grown up in Japan and the US and living a large part of my adult life also in Germany and the Netherlands, I seem to have morphed into a Zelig-like “chameleon” character. No matter what country I’m in, I’m often mistaken for a local and even as staff at cafes, restaurants and Kinko’s I visit. Being a “perpetual outsider”, a “stranger in a strangeland”, I’ve not only had unique cross-cultural observations and experiences, but at times also become an ”instant celebrity” for looking “different”. Through my semi-autobiographical standup comedy, I want explore and express my insights from my personal journey, with the goal of making it more accessible and relevant to the wider public and hopefully, having some kind of impact in countering the current world trend, where borders and mindsets are getting more closed.
Why don’t people like me – REBECCA BERMAN
